Visits to Group Companies in Germany
During my recent trip to Germany to attend a regional executive conference, I visited the three companies which jointly hosted this event: SEI Interconnect Products Europe (SEPE), Sumitomo Electric Schrumpf-Produkte (SESP), and Südkabel.
SEPE is a sales company that handles products from our Electronics Business Unit, while SESP manufactures some of the products in that portfolio, specifically irradiated heat-shrink tubing. The presidents of these two companies provided updates on the latest market trends and their companies’ challenges. I walked the floor at SESP’s manufacturing facility, and conveyed my expectations on new customer acquisition and profitability-focused business development.
Südkabel is a manufacturer of high-voltage power cables. They became a subsidiary of the Sumitomo Electric Group in October 2024 and are now expanding their capacity to produce HVDC (high-voltage direct current) cables for power transmission projects in Germany. This was my first visit to Südkabel since last September, and I was pleased to see the steady progress being made on new factory construction as well as on initiatives related to safety and quality improvement. In addition, their executives confirmed for me that the German and Japanese staff are working together as one to strengthen the company’s manufacturing capabilities.
During this visit I witnessed how the staff members at each company are proactively fulfilling their respective roles and diligently working to strengthen their business foundations. I look forward to seeing all three companies elevate their presence in Europe by leveraging their unique strengths.
