Qualified for the New Year Ekiden!
On November 12, I went with several people to Wakayama Prefecture to support our company’s athletic team at the 66th Kansai Corporate Ekiden Championship. As this was a qualifying event for the annual New Year Ekiden (relay race), it was our team’s goal to do well and secure a spot in the January tournament for the seventh time in a row (and tenth time overall).
While we watched and cheered from the side of the road, alongside many people from other companies and the general public, a fierce competition took place among the runners, especially in the early stages of the race. But each member of our team ran tenaciously in his leg of the race, and in the last stretch our final runner Kazuki Muramoto recorded the fastest time of that leg. The team finished in third place, which qualified Sumitomo Electric for the New Year Ekiden.
Looking back on the event, I think it was a good experience for the newer members of our team who were participating in a corporate ekiden for the first time. And now that we’ve qualified for the big race in January, I hope all team members will take care against injury and stay in top physical condition from now until then.
