Annual Gathering of the Track and Field Team
As part of Sumitomo Electric’s social contribution activities, our company is particularly focused on track and field to promote sports. We have a big team with athletes, coaches and support staff, almost all of whom were in attendance at the team’s annual gathering on March 26th. As the athletes usually train in different locations, this was a great opportunity for everyone to get together, including our executives who are involved in these activities.
After I gave a toast in recognition of everyone’s daily efforts, the athletes reported on their results for the past fiscal year and any personal records achieved. Awards were presented to athletes who had especially notable performances during the year.
The goal of the Sumitomo Electric track and field team is to develop athletes who can compete on the world stage. Currently, the team has 28 members: 15 long-distance runners, 10 sprinters, and three athletes who specialize in the heptathlon/decathlon, long jump and hammer throw, respectively. The team has both deepened its roster and expanded its scope of events in recent years.
Looking ahead to the many world-class competitions set to take place in 2024 and 2025, I hope everyone on our team will continue to build on their recent achievements, stay healthy, and strive for even greater success.
