Visit to a Planned Plant Construction Site in Scotland

On the day after the Top Executive Conference, I visited the Port of Nigg in the Highlands region of northeastern Scotland, which we are considering specifically as a site for constructing a power cable manufacturing base in Europe. I had a very significant time there, meeting with executives of Global Energy Group (GEG), the local partner engaged in port operations, and visiting the planned plant construction site.

The region, which originally prospered as an oil field development business center, is now becoming an important hub in the offshore wind business supply chain. With GEG continuing active investment in port development, high expectations are placed especially on our manufacturing base project not only by Highlands but also by the government of Scotland.

On the top of a hill overlooking the port, I listened to the local project representative working towards launching operations in 2026, regarding the planned site for our new plant and the construction schedule.

While encouraging our employees who are fully committed to the magnificent target of constructing our largest-scale submarine cable plant, I realized once again the importance of applying all the strengths of Sumitomo Electric to make the project a success.
