New Year Ekiden

On January 1st, I went to support our Track & Field Team at the New Year Ekiden (relay race). Until last year, two legs of the relay were open to international runners, which sometimes had put our all-domestic team at a disadvantage. But with changes to the legs this year I thought our team might have a better chance. As our runners competed, they were cheered on by myself and their fellow employees who had traveled from Kanto, Chubu, and Kansai regions to watch the race.

In the end, this year’s team finished the race two places higher than last year’s team, although we did not reach the goal of finishing in 22nd place or above. Some of our runners may not have been satisfied with this result, but there are still many races left in the long-distance running season and so I hope all our runners will continue to maintain their physical condition as they take on future races.

I’d like to thank all of our athletes, Coach Watanabe, everyone involved with the Track & Field Team, and everyone who came to Gunma Prefecture to support the team on New Year’s Day!
