New Year's Receptions 2026
We started this year with a series of receptions to greet the company’s business partners in Japan. The receptions were held in Osaka on January 5th, Tokyo on January 6th, and Nagoya on January 7th. It was an honor to welcome approximately 300 representatives from various companies to these events, and I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who attended.
In what follows, I’ll share some of the remarks from the opening speech I gave at each reception.
In the traditional Chinese calendar, this year’s zodiac animal is the fire horse. The word for this animal is written with two kanji characters. The first character represents a state where what was hidden inside now comes out into the open. That is, it’s the stage where ideals, contradictions, and the true nature of things are revealed for all to see. As for the second character, the horse represents a time of peak energy, which inevitably brings with it change and transformation. If we combine these two interpretations, we could say that 2026 will be a year when the true value of accumulated efforts becomes apparent. As such, only those whose sincerity and actions are aligned will move forward, leaving behind those who rely on cunning and formalities. It is a watershed year, when the seeds of a new era are cultivated amid confusion and disruption.
For the Sumitomo Electric Group, this year marks a major turning point as we conclude our Mid-term Management Plan 2025 and formulate the next three-year management plan. Recognizing that earnest decisions can lead to significant differences in a few years’ time, all of our employees will do their sincere best to advance our technologies and offer new value to our customers. In sum, we will keep striving with utmost dedication to becoming a Glorious Excellent Company.
