2025 Sumitomo Electric Group Kaizen Awards
As a foundational part of the Sumitomo Electric Group, manufacturing capabilities are something we are always working to strengthen. It’s therefore important that we take time to recognize the efforts our employees make to continuously improve our manufacturing sites. On July 24th, we held an award ceremony for three such activities: G-Katsu, Kaizen Proposal, and 200 Kaizen Factory.
"G-Katsu" refers to activities in which small groups of people work together to address workplace challenges that they have identified. By contrast, "Kaizen Proposal" promotes individual employees to voluntarily make improvements. As for “200 Kaizen Factory,” this involves the efforts of all employees in a plant to continuously strengthen their production site by making 10 or so improvements each workday, thereby achieving at least 200 improvements each month.
At the awards ceremony, presentations on the three kinds of activities were made by representatives from each business unit. The many activities demonstrated thorough, fact-based identification of problems as well as ingenuity in problem solving, and yielded real results. This made it very difficult to select the best presentation in each category. Moreover, for the second consecutive year we also had presentations from manufacturing locations outside of Japan, which showed how kaizen activities are rising to a high level on a global scale. Overall, it was truly a gratifying event.
As we strive to achieve our Mid-term Management Plan 2025 and 2030 Vision, the vigorous efforts we make to further strengthen our workplaces can be expected to continue.
