Meeting with President Marcos of the Philippines

On May 28, I had the honor of meeting Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who made time for us during his four-day state visit to Japan. In a very cordial atmosphere, we exchanged views on the expansion of Sumitomo Electric’s flexible printed circuit business in his country.

The Philippines has set a goal to increase their exports of semiconductors and electronics in the years leading up to 2030. President Marcos spoke of his expectation that, with cooperation from companies like ours, the Philippines will play a greater role in the global supply chain for advanced electronic devices and infocommunications equipment. Related to this, he also envisions a growth in domestic employment opportunities.

Sumitomo Electric’s flexible printed circuit business started operations in the Philippines in 1996. Today it remains an important base for us. We have developed many cooperative relationships in the Philippines over the past three decades, and we now look forward to collaborating even further as we work together for the betterment of society.
