Presentation Ceremony for our Grant Program
On February 26th, we welcomed people from academia to the grant presentation ceremony of the Sumitomo Electric Group CSR Foundation. The foundation was established in 2009 in accordance with the Sumitomo Electric Group Basic Policy on Contribution to Society, which has these principles: respect for human resources, attaching importance to technology, and creating a better society and environment. Through its grant program, the foundation provides financial support for university courses, academic and research activities, and student scholarships.
In the category of university courses, a new grant was awarded to a course on comparative veterinary law. With the selection of this course, a total of seven courses are currently being funded. In the category of academic and research activities, grants were awarded to 22 research activities. These were selected from a record high 217 applications submitted to the foundation.
At the presentation ceremony, we heard about the content of these various initiatives from a professor of the newly-funded university course as well as from 18 researchers who were awarded grants.
Following the ceremony, there was a networking event where I had the opportunity to speak informally with the researchers and deepen my understanding of what themes they are pursuing and what specific activities they conduct. Their many words of gratitude for the grants were an affirmation of the importance of the foundation’s work.
In closing, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the selection committee for taking time from their busy schedules to diligently review the many applications that were received by the foundation.
