Basic Views
Sumitomo Electric stipulated its Basic Policies on Contribution to Society in April 2007 on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of its foundation. Under the Basic Policies, we are considering the contribution to society we should make and conducting concrete activities for contributing to society such as the establishment of the Sumitomo Electric Group CSR Foundation as a vehicle to contribute to encouragement of research and learning activities and human resource development, contributions to local communities, monetary contributions, human resource development and support of volunteer activities. We also believe that, while contributing to society through business, the Group should autonomously implement activities for contributing to society suitable for the Sumitomo Electric Group, which is aiming to be a "Glorious Excellent Company."
The Sumitomo Electric Group Basic Policies on Contribution to Society
The Sumitomo Electric Group will proactively engage in voluntary activities for contributing to society, as a responsible member of society, focusing on “respect for human resources,” “attaching importance to technology,” and “creating a better society and environment” in accordance with the Sumitomo Spirit and the Sumitomo Electric Group Corporate Principles, as well as widely contributing to society through its business activities, including the provision of products, technologies and services that benefit society.

Structure
In January 2025, we launched the Social Contribution Subcommittee, headed by the officer in charge of Administration Division, as a sub-organization of the CSR Promotion Committee.
This subcommittee checks whether activities contributing to society are being promoted with appropriate content and scale based on the Sumitomo Electric Group Basic Policies on Contribution to Society and the Mid-term Management Plan 2025, and also shares issues, considers ways to improve the content of activities, and considers how to publicly disclose these activities.
Specific initiatives are being promoted in collaboration across the entire Group, including the Sumitomo Electric Group CSR Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the “CSR Foundation”), each business unit, and business bases in Japan and overseas. Activities of particularly high importance are implemented after they are deliberated and approved by the Board of Directors and other key internal deliberating bodies.

Activities for contributing to society of the Sumitomo Electric Group
Contributions to CSR activities in fiscal 2024 amounted to 2,131 million yen, equivalent to 0.96% of profit after-tax (221.8 billion yen).
Initiatives
1.Developing Next Generation Talents and Promote Academic Pursuits Through the Sumitomo Electric Group CSR Foundation, and Contributing to a Wide Variety of Activities, Including Activities to Protect the Environment
The Group makes donations to a wide range of organizations and groups that promote activities contributing to society. Our company alone donated 863 million yen in fiscal 2024. Donations were made to the CSR Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund, and areas aected by natural disasters (such as the earthquake off the coast of eastern Taiwan and the heavy rain disaster in Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture). Additionally, we will continue to support the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, continuing from fiscal 2023.
<Initiatives through the CSR Foundation>
The CSR Foundation, established in 2009, supports initiatives for developing next generation talents and promoting academic pursuits in a variety of areas both in Japan and overseas. Specifically, the Foundation actively endows university courses, offers academic and research grants, and provides scholarships.
(1) Endowed university courses
To establish and operate a course (laboratory), we make ongoing donations for three to five years per course. In fiscal year 2024, donations were made to seven courses, including one new course.

To support the research activities of researchers (professors, etc.), we provide subsidies for one year for each research topic. In fiscal 2024, 22 projects were selected from a total of 217 applications.

(3) Scholarships
The scholarship is available to master's students majoring in science and engineering at Japanase universities who excel academically and have excellent character, but who are in need of financial assistance. We also provide scholarships to international students studying in Japan and students at universities overseas. A total of 169 people received our scholarships in fiscal 2024.
Other initiatives
We invite new recipients of endowed university courses and recipients of academic and research grants, both new and expiring, to our company for a presentation ceremony where they report on their research and receive letters of appreciation. We also invite scholorship students to our manufacturing plants for a exchange meeting or presentation session where they can tour the factory and introduce their research.
2.Promoting Community Contribution Activities at Each Site
The Group operates in more than 40 countries and regions. We respect the culture and customs of each country and region and contribute to economic and social development through our business activities. We also aim to coexist with local communities by promoting a variety of activities contributing to society. The number of people who participated in activities contributing to society in fiscal 2024 (*) was 2,205 for Sumitomo Electric alone and 16,477 for the Group.

3.Continued Support for Employee Volunteer Activities
The Group has created an environment that makes it easy for employees to participate in volunteer activities and actively supports their voluntary activities contributing to society.
<Volunteer leave program>
Since 2007, we have encouraged employees to participate in volunteer activities by allowing them to use accumulated leave for the purpose of volunteering. In April 2025, we will introduce a new volunteer leave program, allowing employees to take up to five days of leave per year in half-day increments for volunteer activities or participation in local events. Additionally, some Group companies have introduced their own vacation and leave systems to encourage volunteering.

<TABLE FOR TWO program>
Sumitomo Electric and some Group companies have introduced the TABLE FOR TWO (TFT) program*. Under this program, low-calorie, nutritionally balanced TFT menus are served in employee cafeterias, and a portion of the proceeds is donated to school lunch programs in developing countries. We have also installed donation vending machines that will be used to donate to the nonprofit TABLE FOR TWO. This initiative has been highly evaluated, and the Company has received the award every year since 2019.
*TABLE FOR TWO program: A system run by the nonprofit organization TABLE FOR TWO International that aims to simultaneously solve the problems of hunger and malnutrition in developing countries and the problems of obesity and lifestyle-related diseases in developed countries.

As a form of corporate support for employee volunteer activities, Sumitomo Electric and some Group companies have implemented a matching gift program*.
*Matching gift program: A program in which the Group matches employee donations by donating the same amount
4.Actively Supporting Sports Activities and Events
The Group contributes to the promotion of sports and the development of local communities by cooperating in the management of sports tournaments, supporting local sports activities, and supporting para-sports.
5.Contribution as a member of the Sumitomo Group
The Sumitomo Group supports the Sumitomo Foundation, which subsidizes basic science and environmental research as well as projects for preserving and restoring cultural properties in Japan and abroad. Sumitomo Electric also participates actively in various social contribution activities planned and implemented by the Sumitomo Group Public Affairs Committee in each fiscal year.

In 1991, 20 companies of the Sumitomo Group made donations and set up the Sumitomo Foundation to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Besshi Copper Mine in Shikoku, Japan. The Foundation provides grants to research and projects whose aims are to address problems that confront humanity.
