Executive Conference in Europe
On July 4th and 5th, I was in Germany to attend our company’s executive conference in the EMEA region. This was one of four regional conferences that we hold annually, the others taking place in the Americas, Greater China, and Asia-Pacific regions. The meeting in Germany was attended by more than 50 people, including executives from our European group companies as well as several Group Global Executives.
The discussions on the first day centered on reports from each group company about their current business situation and market conditions. Even though we routinely monitor our businesses in the region, this was a valuable session as there aren’t many opportunities to hear directly from local executives. I hope that everyone who attended the conference will continue to place a high value on communication and guide their companies to steady growth.
The second day was dedicated to regional topics such as intercompany synergy, the environment, and sustainability. The Sumitomo Electric Group has many business locations in the EMEA region, where it is necessary to take into account diverse cultures, languages, and business regulations. This can make it a challenge to effectively tackle issues that subsidiaries have in common, but through the collective wisdom of local executives and collaboration with Japan I feel we can make the most of our diversity to work toward solutions.
Throughout the conference, during breaks and meal times, I also had the chance to speak with many of the attendees. I think that conversations like these among the attendees, about what’s happening in countries and industries outside their daily experience, surely added to the overall value of the conference.
I hope attendees make use of the insights and other knowledge they gained at the conference to successfully navigate their companies through the business challenges that may lie ahead.
