Sumitomo Electric U.K. Power Cables Hosted Supplier Workshops in Inverness to Stimulate the Local Green Economy Supply Chain
Sumitomo Electric U.K. Power Cables Ltd. (SEUK-CL), the Scotland-based subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., held its first supply chain engagement workshops in Inverness, Scotland on 28 & 29 October 2024 with support from Highlands and Island Enterprise (HIE).
SEUK-CL, the first submarine extra-high-voltage power cable manufacturing plant in the UK and located in the Scottish Highlands, conducted supplier engagement workshops at the end of October.
The company’s mission to localize power cable manufacturing in the UK to contribute to a Net-Zero Society took a step closer to realization by meeting and discussing with targeted stakeholders who will support the facility as part of their supply chain. The first workshops aimed not only to ensure a continuous, reliable, and sustainable supply of locally produced power cable, but also to underpin the company’s commitment to the local economy and job creation.
The workshops were well-attended, with representatives from the supply chain, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and business partners joining SEUK-CL staff to make the event a success. SEUK-CL’s chairperson, Yasuyuki Shibata, emphasized that the company will continue to engage with the local community for the benefit of both the Company and the local economy- a message that resonated with the audience.
As one of the leading global manufacturers of high-voltage cables, SEUK-CL will leverage the cutting-edge technology and expertise to produce the UK's first submarine high-voltage cable while maximizing the development of the local supply chain.
The journey is well underway for SEUK-CL to make a significant contribution to the Green Society and the economies of the UK and Scotland.
