Sumitomo Electric’s Yoshinori Yamamoto Receives the 2025 Distinguished Service Award from the Telecommunication Technology Committee
In recognition of his significant contributions to the standardization of optical fiber systems, Yoshinori Yamamoto, Senior Assistant Manager, Market Development & Engineering Department, Optical Fiber & Cable Division, Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has been awarded the 2025 Distinguished Service Award by the Telecommunication Technology Commission (TTC), a general incorporated association responsible for the standardization and dissemination of information and telecommunications networks. The award ceremony was held on June 18 at the Meiji Kinenkan, where TTC presented with Yamamoto a certificate of commendation.

The TTC annually honors individuals those who have made significant contributions to TTC standardization activities. The 2025 TTC Distinguished Service Award, finalized at the 185th meeting of the Strategy Committee held on April 16, marks a consecutive honor*1 for the Sumitomo Electric Group following last year.
Since 2020, he has participated in the TTC's Advisory Group on Optical Fiber Transmission through Communication Line Products Association of Japan.
He was recognized for his active involvements in international standardization at the advisory group, which included submitting proposals on single-mode optical fibers for submarine cables and long-distance terrestrial networks (Recommendation ITU-T G.654 ) to Question 5*2 of Study Group 15*3 at the International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
In addition, he has made significant contributions to the development of the domestic technical standard, TTC standard JT-L100, which defines the characteristics of optical fiber cables installed in ducts and tunnels using the towing method, and another, JT-L250, on optical access network topology. These achievements have earned him this distinguished award.
Today, the increase in global data traffic and the remarkable development of generative AI are driving the need for higher capacity and lower latency communication networks both within and between data centers. Against this backdrop, the standardization of optical fiber cables has become an increasingly important endeavor.
The Sumitomo Electric Group is very much encouraged by this honor and will continue to strive for the standardization and advancement of information and communication technology.
