Sumitomo Electric Provides Guidance to Engineers Engaged in Communications Infrastructure in Cambodia

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., at the request of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, participated in a project for providing technical guidance to communications engineers in Cambodia. The Company cooperated in the training of engineers by inviting representatives from the Cambodia to a human resource development seminar held in Japan from November 2 to 11, 2022.

As part of Official Development Assistance (ODA) aimed at transferring the know-how of developing monozukuri (manufacturing) human resources as well as engineer evaluation know-how in Japan to developing countries in Asia, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare currently provides skill testing seminars and trials to governments and vocational training institutions in such countries.

In particular, Cambodia was selected as the target country for this project, which aims at newly establishing and introducing an “Information Network Cabling” category at a vocational skills competition in Cambodia. Since last fiscal year, Cambodia has been provided with continuous support.

Sumitomo Electric has participated in the project to provide such support since last fiscal year by dispatching engineers and providing optical fiber fusion splicers and other related products to Cambodia.

This fiscal year, the Company introduced mainly optical-related products and their manufacturing methods to Cambodian communications engineers and staff members from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare at the Yokohama Works, and provided guidance on technologies related to optical communication networks. Cambodian engineers also introduced communication network conditions in their country. Participants favorably commented that they could systematically learn about and gain in-depth understanding of optical communication networks by becoming familiar with Sumitomo Electric’s wide-ranging products as well as advanced technologies that support these products. Staff members of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare also expressed their gratitude for the continuous contribution of the Company.

Sumitomo Electric will strive to develop cutting-edge products and technologies in the field of optical communications products and continue to develop communications infrastructure around the world while also providing guidance to engineers involved in such development, thereby further contributing to the spreading of advanced information societies around the world.
