Measures against global warming are underway around the world, and achieving carbon neutrality is becoming a critical issue.
To balance the emission and absorption of greenhouse gases, energy efficiency and electrification are needed. Electronic products are equipped with electric actuator and power supplies, with electromagnetic conversion components using soft magnetic composites (magnetic material/magnetic cores) being positioned as particularly important components.
Unlike the previously mainstream radial flux motors, axial flux motors with soft magnetic composites are compact, lightweight, and capable of high output. The Sumitomo Electric Group, which has been paying close attention to this technology from an early stage, was a pioneer in the industry by bringing its soft magnetic composites for axial flux motors to market in 2020. This issue reports on how the potential and widespread use of this technology will support a sustainable society through the efforts of the Sumitomo Electric Group.
