Sumitomo Electric Exhibits High-Speed, High-Capacity mmWave Communication System for 5G and 6G at the Mobile World Congress 2025
Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. will participate in the Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC), the world's largest mobile communications exhibition, to be held in Barcelona, Spain from March 3 (Monday) to March 6 (Thursday), 2025, where we will exhibit our high-speed, high-capacity millimeter-wave communication system as a next-generation technology for communications.
MWC is a world-renowned mobile communications event organized by an industry association composed of mobile carriers and other companies (GSMA). Every year, the event attracts more than 100,000 visitors, including mobile carriers and equipment manufacturers from around the world. Our company will be exhibiting our Distributed Antenna System (DAS), which enables high-speed, high-capacity communications using millimeter waves, industrial 5G terminals, and 5G terminals with edge AI, at our booth in the Japan Pavilion. These exhibits provide innovative solutions for 5G and future 6G.

The Distributed Antenna System (DAS) is a system that extends coverage by efficiently distributing high-power radio waves transmitted from base stations using optical fiber cables. This technology enables high-capacity communications even in places where radio waves are difficult to reach, such as inside buildings and underground. Our DAS is compatible with 5G millimeter waves and is characterized by the extremely compact size of the DAS remote unit (millimeter-wave antenna), which is approximately one-tenth the size of a standard millimeter wave base station. At this exhibition, we will conduct a live demonstration using an actual 5G millimeter-wave-compatible distributed antenna system.

Industrial 5G terminals contribute to the digital transformation (DX) of factory IoT and transportation networks by transmitting data from factories and transportation infrastructure at high speed via 5G communications, and by performing data analysis in the cloud.
The exhibit will feature a product (model number IGW5111) that is both dustproof and waterproof and supports high-capacity communications via 5G millimeter waves, as well as the latest model under development that includes an AI platform for a high-precision image-processing sensor.
