・Sumitomo Electric is an Intel-certified design partner responsible for Thunderbolt™ development.
・The first Thunderbolt™, released in 2011, achieved a maximum transmission speed of 10 Gbps (twice as fast as USB 3.0 at the time). Since then, 20 Gbps was achieved with Thunderbolt2™ in 2013, 40 Gbps with Thunderbolt™3 released in 2015 and Thunderbolt™4 compliant with USB4 in 2020, and 80 Gbps with the Thunderbolt™5 to be released in August 2024.
・Thunderbolt™ cables automatically recognize the characteristics of each device and perform optimal data transfer*1 and charging*2  simply by connecting to devices such as hard disk drives and displays.
・Equipped with a USB Type-C connector, Thunderbolt™ cables are compact and can be connected without minding their orientation.
・Sumitomo Electric's micro flex coaxial cables  exhibit excellent flexibility and exceptional resistance to bending. These cables are expected to play a pivotal role in docking stations, facilitating efficient and space-saving connections between personal computers and peripherals, as well as enabling seamless integration with 4K/8K displays.
・Thunderbolt™ cables support both daisy-chain connections and star connections*3 using a hub with up to four Thunderbolt™4 ports, allowing for flexible device configurations.

Daisy-chain connections
Daisy-chain connections

*1 Thunderbolt™ 3/4/5, USB 2/3/4 series, DisplayPort 1.4/2.1
*2 Fast-charging up to 240W.
*3 A form of connection in which several devices are radially connected around a network device.
