Pedestrian Detection Millimeter-Wave Sensor Successfully Deployed in the U.S. to Be Showcased for the First Time at ITS World Congress 2025

The “NEXUSEYE™” *¹ pedestrian detection millimeter-wave sensor, developed by Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (hereinafter “Sumitomo Electric”), which ensures high detection accuracy even at night and in adverse weather conditions, has recently been deployed in the United States. The actual unit will be showcased for the first time at the 31st ITS World Congress 2025, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A., from August 24 to 28 *².

The “NEXUSEYE™” is a wide-range, high-precision sensor that uses millimeter-wave radar technology to detect pedestrians at distances of up to 55 meters (approx. 180 ft) with high accuracy, even under adverse weather or nighttime conditions. Commercialized in October 2024, the sensor has been deployed in the U.S., including in San Marcos, Texas, where it has contributed significantly to improving pedestrian safety. Sumitomo Electric will expand the deployment of the sensor in the U.S. in collaboration with its exclusive North American partner, Iteris, Inc. *3

At the exhibition, live demonstrations using the actual sensor will be conducted from August 25 to 27, allowing visitors to observe real-time pedestrian detection within the venue. Sumitomo Electric looks forward to welcoming you to its booth.
