Sumitomo Electric Signs Construction Subcontract with ea.Ramonat of Germany
Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has signed a construction subcontract with Energieanlagen Ramonat GmbH (ea.Ramonat), a German cable installation company, for construction work, including the installation of 525 kV high-voltage direct current (DC) cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables in the German Korridor B project 49.*1
In Europe, where the use of renewable energy is thriving, customers have recently been demanding not only the manufacture of power cables but also receiving orders for integrated engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work in order to optimize planning in the early stages of projects. Among these, securing operators is crucial, as the installation work is handled by local operators.
Under these circumstances, in order to advance this project, we have signed a construction subcontract with the ea.Ramonat, a company that has the technology to handle cable installation over a route of approximately 300 km, one of the longest in the industry, and is capable of undertaking the work over several years.
As an EPC contractor, we have been contributing to the decarbonization efforts of Germany and the EU with the Korridor B project 49, following the A-Nord*2 project that we secured in 2020 in Germany. Moving forward, we will further contribute to the German economy through Südkabel GmbH, which joined our group last autumn, by promoting local production for local consumption through localized cable manufacturing.
Yasuyuki Shibata, Senior Executive Officer of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., said:
“First and foremost, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Mr. Stefan Ramonat and his excellent team for their commitment and collaboration in making this contract a reality. Additionally, we are immensely grateful to the German government and Amprion GmbH for their substantial support and understanding of our long-term business commitment in Germany.
This contract will not only create new jobs and drive service demand in the surrounding areas during its execution but also ensure the reliable supply of green electricity to millions of households and industries in Germany upon completion. Together, let’s contribute to Germany’s energy transition and pave the way for a sustainable future.”
Stefan Ramonat, CEO of ea.Ramonat, said:
“This is a great opportunity to express my gratitude for the trust you have placed in us, allowing us to collaborate on not just one, but now the third project together. This new contract would not have been possible without the mutual trust and collaboration we have built. To prepare for this project, we have made significant investments, including in new facilities, technology, and talented employees.”
