Sumitomo Electric’s Takuya Mitarai Receives the SSDM Young Researcher Award in SSDM2024

Takuya Mitarai of Device Design Group, Optical Devices Department, Transmission Devices Laboratory, Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. was honored with the SSDM Young Researcher Award at the 2024 International Conference on Solid State Devices and Materials (SSDM), Asia’s largest international conference in the field of electronic materials and devices. The award ceremony was held on September 2 at Himeji Park (Himeji Castle) in Hyogo Prefecture, and Mitarai was presented with the award certificate.

The SSDM Young Researcher Award is presented to young researchers who contributed outstanding research papers at the previous year's SSDM. This award recognizes Takuya Mitarai for his efforts towards reducing power consumption in information and communication technology through the integration of the latest machine learning and nanotechnology. His research, conducted in collaboration with Hokkaido University, was showcased in the presentation titled "Compact Passive Waveguides Using Mosaic-Based Devices with Triangular Lattice Photonic Crystal-Like Structure."
