Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Osamu Inoue, hereafter "our company") has expanded and launched insert corner radii for the low resistance tangential insert side cutter SEC-Sumi Dual Mill™ TGC series for sale as of January 2024.

The side cutter can be used in the machining of a wide range of for machine parts, including automobiles, machine tools, construction machinery and so on. Generally, when machining with side cutters, long tool overhang can lead to problems such as degraded machined surface quality, as well as decreased tool life due to chatter or vibration. Therefore, cutters with sharp cutting edges are required in response to the increasing need for low-resistance products that suppress chatter and vibration. In addition, in recent years, there are increasing expectations for side cutters to provide high-efficiency machining while reducing power consumption for eco-friendly purposes.

In response to these requirements, our company has launched the low resistance tangential insert side cutter SEC-Sumi Dual Mill™ TGC series for sale as of November 2022. In order to respond to a wider range of machining sites and parts specifications, we have now expanded to three insert corner radius types (RE = 2.4/3.0/3.2).

(1) Responds to a wider range of machining sites and parts specifications
Made-to-order bodies can be designed with width of cut of 17mm and up, making it suitable for various applications such as grooving and shoulder milling.

(2) Realises low resistance and low-vibration milling
Cutting edge design with +10° inclination angle that emphasise sharpness, suppresses chatter and vibration to realise stable machining even when machining low-rigidity workpieces which are prone to instability.

(3) Realises excellent surface quality
Proprietary insert array design minimizes joint steps at the groove bottom for excellent machined surface quality.
