What is this “Splice-pedia” Webinar Privacy Notice about?
Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. ("Sumitomo Electric") has prepared this “Splice-pedia” Webinar Privacy Notice ("Notice") to give you information about how Sumitomo Electric collects, processes, stores and otherwise uses personal data about you, and your rights in relation to that data, including your right to object to some of the processing which Sumitomo Electric carries out. Sumitomo Electric is the controller for your personal data collected through or in connection with the “Splice-pedia” Webinar.
Who is this Notice relevant to?
This Notice is relevant to you if you sign up for the “Splice-pedia” Webinar. For EEA and UK residents, please also refer to the “Additional Information for the EEA and UK Residents” below.
What categories of personal data does Sumitomo Electric collect about me?
Sumitomo Electric will collect, process and use the following categories and types of personal data about you:
・ Name
・ E-mail address
・ Country where you live
・ Name of company for which you work
・ Any other information collected through the survey questionnaire or in connection with “Splice-pedia” Webinar.
Provision of personal data above is required, and you will be unable to join to “Splice-pedia” Webinar, if you don't provide personal data.
Why does Sumitomo Electric collect such personal data?
Sumitomo Electric will process or use your personal data for the following purposes by itself or with its group companies and/or its distributors globally:

Developing and improving fusion splicer, and other related products and services

Communicating with you about the products and services offered by us, including, without limitation, responding to your enquiries, requests and complaints

Analysis of user’s activity for marketing purposes

Sending direct marketing communication to you

Complying with applicable laws, regulations and other requirements (e.g. providing assistance to law enforcement agencies, regulatory authorities and other governmental agencies)

Carrying out any other purpose described to you at the time the information was collected
Who might Sumitomo Electric share my personal data with?
Sumitomo Electric may transfer personal data to third parties for the Processing Purposes as follows:

Data processors. As necessary for the Processing Purposes described above, personal data may be shared with one or more third parties to process personal data under appropriate instructions ("Data Processors").

Regulators, authorities, advisors and representatives. As necessary for the Processing Purposes described above, personal data may be transferred to regulators, courts, and other authorities (e.g., tax and law enforcement authorities), independent external advisors (e.g., auditors), internal compliance and investigation teams (including external advisers appointed to conduct internal investigations) and our EU and UK representatives (please refer to Additional Information for the EEA and UK Residents for more details).

Acquiring entities. If Sumitomo Electric business is sold or transferred in whole or in part (or such a sale or transfer is being contemplated), your personal data may be transferred to the acquirer or potential acquirer as part of the transfer itself or as part of an initial review for such transfer (i.e. due diligence), subject to any rights provided by applicable law, including jurisdictions where the acquirer or potential acquirer is located.
How long will Sumitomo Electric keep my personal data for?
Personal data processed for the Processing Purposes will be stored for a period of up to 1 year after the ending date of “Splice-pedia” Webinar released in February 2022.
If a judicial or disciplinary action is initiated, the personal data may be stored until the end of such action, including any potential periods for appeal, and will then be deleted or archived as permitted by applicable law.
What rights do I have in respect of my personal data?
As long as it is permitted under applicable data protection regulations, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal data, which can be summarised as follows:

Right of access
You have the right to confirm with us whether your personal data is processed, and if it is, to request access to that personal data including a copy of the personal data processed, the categories of personal data processed, the purpose of the processing and the recipients or categories of recipients. We do have to take into account the interests of others though, so this is not an absolute right.

Right to rectification
You have the right to request the rectification of inaccurate or incomplete personal data concerning you.

Right to erasure (right to be forgotten)
You may have the right to ask us to erase your personal data.

Right to restriction of processing
In certain circumstances, you may have the right to request that we restrict processing of your personal data.

Right to data portability
You may have the right to receive personal data concerning you, which you have provided to us, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and you may have the right to request that we transmit that data to another entity.

Right to object
You may have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to the processing of your personal data by us and we can be required to no longer process your personal data.

Right to not to be subject to automated decision-making
In certain circumstances, you may have the right not to be subject to solely data-based, automated decision-making (including profiling) that produces any legal or similar material effect on you.

Right of withdrawal of consent
You may have the right to withdraw your consent for the processing of your personal data, which consent is the legal ground to process your personal data.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us as stated under below (Whom can I contact about this Notice and to exercise my rights?). These rights may be limited, for example if fulfilling your request would reveal personal data about another person, or if you ask us to delete information which we are required by law to keep or have a compelling legitimate interest in keeping.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority.
Changes to this Notice
We may have to update this Notice from time to time, notably to make sure that it reflects our current data processing activities.

Legal grounds to process personal data
We process your personal data for the following purposes on the following legal grounds:
・ Developing and improving fusion splicer, and other related products and services; This processing is based on the legitimate interest of us to develop or improve fusion splicer and other related products and services.
・ Communicating with you about the products and services offered by us, including, without limitation, responding to your enquiries, requests and complaints; This processing is based on our legitimate interest in communicating with you about our products and services.
・ Analysis of user’s activity for marketing purposes; This processing is based on our legitimate interest in understanding how users interact with our products and services.
・ Sending direct marketing communication to you; This processing is based on your consent when it is required by law. In some cases, we will rely on legitimate interest to send direct marketing communication to you, but you will always have the right to opt-out of direct marketing. You can do this by following the instructions within the communication itself, or contacting us at the details set out below.
・ Complying with applicable laws, regulations and other requirements (e.g. Providing assistance to law enforcement agencies, regulatory authorities and other governmental agencies); This processing is based on legal obligation if the applicable law is the EU or the UK law.
